Joanne Dawson Hinds, Born:  February 23, 1932 in Dalhart, Texas to William Artis Dawson and Harriett Marie Dawson.  She was the youngest of three girls and the apple of her father’s eye.  Joanne graduated valedictorian from Dalhart High School, and was slated to follow her father into medicine.  But her high school sweetheart, Roy “Duke” Hinds had other ideas.  They were married in Dalhart on July 30, 1950, and shared 49 loving years together, raising a family of four children and following the oil business across six states.

Throughout her life, Joanne loved gardening, reading, painting, crafting, playing golf and bridge with friends, and entertaining guests.  She was also deeply proud that when anyone visited her home, the comments were often made that she and Duke were not only great cooks and great hosts, but together were Mr. Neat and Mrs. Clean.

Joanne never craved a “starring role” in life. She delighted in serving as the ‘best supporting actress’ in the  busy lives of her husband, children and grandchildren.  While Duke traveled and worked long hours, Joanne nurtured and sustained the family, serving as homemaker, cub scout den mother, Sunday school teacher, homeroom mother, community volunteer, child care advocate, advisor and friend.  She was integral to raising not only her four children but her nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Joanne died March 20, 2017, surrounded by the love, presence and prayers of the family she cherished.

Joanne is survived by Steve and Leslie Penrose (daughter and spouse), David and Carol Hinds (son and spouse), Cole and Carl Hinds (son and spouse, Mary Williams (daughter), 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
