Aloysius (“Al”) Michael Baker passed from this world on March 20, 2018 in Collinsville, Oklahoma, at the age of 93 years. Al was born October 23, 1924, in Atchison, Kansas, to parents Henry Michael Baker and Catherine Elizabeth Baker.
Al served as an electrician’s mate in World War II from 1942 to 1946. He served in multiple theaters – Pacific, European, & American Area – on both the USS Neunzer and USS O’Brien. He received a purple heart due to injuries from a Kamikaze attack on board the USS O’Brien.
He married Patricia Ruth Alexander on September 6, 1952 at Saint Therese Catholic Church in Collinsville. Al remained an active member of St. Therese Catholic Church until his death. His hobbies included raising many animals (horses, sheep, pigeons, & rabbits to name a few), gardening, roses, hunting, fishing, and camping. Al traveled the world while in retirement, which he did with Pat for over 20 years.
Al is survived by his daughter, Alisa Baker Mankins (husband Butch) of Cleveland, OK; sons, James Baker (wife Amy) of Collinsville, OK, Jon Baker (wife Sarah) of Chanhassen, MN and daughter-in-law, Sandie Baker of Stuart, OK; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Baker of Kansas City, KS, Richard Baker of Arvada, CO and one sister, Helen Wright of Des Moines, IA. Preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Baker; son, Tim Baker; five brothers, Gerard H. Baker, Martin J. Baker, Thomas H. Baker, Raymond Baker, Maurice Baker; four sisters, Kathleen Elizabeth Freund, Charlotte Chase, Mary Alice Snyder, and Colette Mayse; and parents, Henry and Catherine Baker
