Carmen Marie McCarthy of Tulsa passed away, surrounded by her family, on May 16, 2019. Carmen was born on July 3, 1930 to Edward and Yvonne LaRocque, the second of six children. She was an accomplished musician and played viola and piano in the LaRocque Family Orchestra, which performed in the Kankakee and Chicago areas. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Seminary in Kankakee, IL.
Shy, beautiful Carmen met her future husband, Don McCarthy—a tall, outgoing redhead with a convertible—at Catholic youth group. They built a life together, raised five children, and faced the joys and challenges of 61 years of marriage. She was a meticulous housekeeper and gardener. She enjoyed playing tennis and tracing her French Canadian ancestry. Carmen was a long-time community volunteer at Neighbor for Neighbor Clinic where she worked in the pharmacy alongside her closest friends serving the medical needs of Tulsa's most vulnerable citizens.
Carmen is survived by sons John (Tulsa) and Lawrence (Arlington, VA); daughters Ruth Ann McCarthy Sirbaugh (Stillwater) and Susan McCarthy Garner (Tulsa); grandchildren Dylan, Regan, and Logan Sirbaugh; Canyon Garner; and son-in-law Ken Sirbaugh. Carmen was predeceased by her oldest child, Mary Frances McCarthy, and her husband, Donald Francis McCarthy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you remember Carmen by sharing an act of kindness to someone in need. Memorial services are pending with Church of the Resurrection.
