Gerry was proceeded in death by his parents Raymond and Norma Gabel, his brother Ray Gabel, his son Kevin Pruitt Gabel, his great-grandson Caden Pruitt Shine, and his father-in-law Jack Pruitt Wallace.
He is survived by his wife Mary Gabel, sons Gregory and Stacy Gabel and Jonathan and Maggie Gabel. Granchildren JoAnne, Ethan, Pierce, Cameron, Abby, and Cliff. Great granddaughter Aria. Siblings Ron Gabel, Tom and Peggy Gabel, Patti and Phil Mayden, and sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Doug Sedberry. Mother-in-law Jo Alice Wallace. Many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends.
Gerry was born in Chicago and lived there until the family moved to Oklahoma City in 1960. He graduated from Bishop McGuinness in 1964.
He served in the US Army from 1966-1968 in Germany. Gerry and Mary were married October 18, 1970. Gerry graduated from Central State in Edmond, OK with a bachelor’s in Business in 1972. While getting his degree he worked for Lepak Trucking. After graduation he went to work at Western Electric in OKC. April 1, 1974 Gerry went to work for the Cain’s Coffee Company and he and Mary moved to Tulsa. He took early retirement in 2009.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was an usher for the 10:00 a.m. mass at the Church of St. Mary. A huge Chicago Cubs fan, his favorite song was “Go Cubs Go!” Being a BMHS grad and Mary working at Bishop Kelley High School, where all three sons graduated, he became a Comet! Gerry also coached many baseball teams for Greg, Kevin, and Jonathan at St. Pius X School.
His funeral mass will be Saturday, September 14, 2019 at the Church of St. Mary at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Bishop Kelley High School's Tuition Assistance Fund; School of Saint Mary Tuition Assistance Fund; or Grace Hospice Tulsa.
