Isom Baker, Sr. Obituary

On October 21, 1942, Bonnie Baker and Gertrude Baker of Lubbock Texas gave birth to their son Isom Lee Baker, affectionately known to all as “Baker.”

Baker’s love for GOD and family was always first in his heart. Fishing, cooking and blues was always a close second.

He began working at a young age and retired from Beaver Express. However, retirement didn’t seem to stick for Baker and shortly thereafter began working for Pense Brothers in Glenpool, Oklahoma from which he retired again after a lengthy illness.

Baker was blessed to have two great loves in his lifetime. His first love, Dortha Sparks along with her one year old son (Anthony) and as time passed, their love would produce four other children (Isom Lee Jr., Bobby Ray, LaShawn, and Lillian). In 1980, Baker was blessed to have one other child, Kendis Renay.

In 1981, Love would find Baker again with Lillie Mae Lawton, he would often say, “it was love at first sight for him, but not for her.” However, Baker did not take no for an answer. His love prevailing and in 1982 Baker, Lillie and her seven children, who affectionately called him “Papa” were united in marriage.

Before her death, Baker made one promise to his beloved wife Lillie to always love, cherish, and care for their granddaughter Francine Walker and his great grandson Isaac Walker, which he honored up until is passing on January 23, 2018.
