Lyle C. Disch
1922 - 2017
Lyle C. Disch was born on October 27, 1922 in Nowata, Oklahoma to Margaret J. and Robert I. Disch. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Freda E., his brother, Robert M., and his parents.
Lyle graduated from Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, OK after serving in the Army Air Corps where he was training to be a meteorologist at the end of WWII. There he met the love of his life, Freda E. Terrill. They married in 1947, raised two daughters and celebrated more than sixty years of marriage. Lyle worked in the oil business for 34 years as a crude oil trader. He retired from Amoco in 1982 to spend many happy years at the family farm near Vera, OK. Lyle was a dedicated conservationist and served on the Washington County Conservation Board for many years. For over 40 years he was also a faithful member and an elder at Yale Avenue Presbyterian Church. Lyle was an avid golfer into his 90’s, was known to shoot his age and even drop the occasional hole-in-one. He enjoyed hunting and waterskiing and patiently taught many a young person to ski from the driver’s seat.
He will be remembered for his kind heart, his generous spirit, quick wit, and the quiet dignity with which he lived his life for nearly a century. A wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Lyle fought the good fight, he finished the race and he kept the faith. We find great comfort that for him, to depart and be with Christ is better by far.
He will be greatly missed by his adoring family: his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Gary Been; his daughter, Linda Stubbs; his granddaughters and their husbands, Erin and Pete Scribner, Laura and Tyson Sturgeon, Sarah Stubbs-Lawson, Rachel Stubbs and Neil Massey and Audra Stubbs; his great-grandchildren, Jack and Caroline Scribner, Coldren and Piercen Sturgeon, and Savannah Stevens and Sadie Lawson; as well as a great number of nieces, nephews and dear friends.
