Marilyn Sue (Fix) Nourse

Marilyn “Sue” Nourse was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on July 15, 1937.  She entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on September 22, 2017, at the age of 80.  Preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Perry Warren “Pete” Nourse, and her parents Ruben Lee Fix and Helen Glied Fix.  Also, brothers R.L. Fix, Robert Fix and sisters Patricia Silkey, Betty Cervantez, and Georgia Fix.

Sue grew up in a large family with nine other siblings.  Her mother, whom she had great love and admiration for was widowed at an early age, but was an inspiration to their family by raising 10 children.  She installed perseverance and work ethics that molded her children.  Sue was no exception, as she set goals for herself and aspired to attain them.  She and Pete married on June 28, 1955.  They made their home in Tulsa where Sue was a homemaker, and they raised three children.  As a young adult, she accepted the Lord as her Savior, and she and her family were members of Church of the Open Door where she also served as the pastors’ secretary for several years.  In later years, she attended Tulsa Bible Church.  In 1981, she acquired her real estate license and began a very successful career with McGraw, Davisson, Stewart Realtors for over 20 years.  In addition to facilitating hundreds of people with their dreams of home ownership, she also made lifelong friends.  In particular with a small group of ladies that celebrated their birthdays every year with special “birthday Luncheons” together.

One of Sues passions was travel.  She, along with her husband Pete, traveled throughout the US, Canada, the Caribbean Islands, and much of Europe.  If asked her favorite place, the answer would be the beach.  But, Tuscany and the beautiful western sea coastline of Italy was one of the most highlighted of her travels.

Another one of her favorite things was to go for a “ride”.  Whether it was a long drive in the country to the family acreage in Stone Bluff, or a drive around the streets of downtown Tulsa where she had beloved childhood memories.  A stop for a “Coke” along the way was always expected and carried out.  If you really wanted to earn brownie points, then you made another stop for her favorite indulgence, the Sonic BLT croissant.

Sue enjoyed many hobbies.  Frequenting local antique shops for “treasures” was something she always looked forward to.  She loved antique furniture and liked collecting various articles such as:  unique bird houses, beautiful dishes, a wide assortment of clocks and just about any item with a cat on it.  She had a special place in her heart for animals and especially her own 3 cats.  Romeo, Charmer, and Tuxie were very dear to her and loyal companions for many years in the absence of her best friend, Pete.

Sue loved gardening and always had a wide assortment of beautiful flowers in her yard.  Never opting for yard gloves, she preferred to get her hands right in the dirt.  She loved the outdoors and chose being outside, rather than indoors most of the time. One could frequently find her having her morning coffee outside on the screen porch, enjoying the view. 

As an older adult in her late 40’s and 50’s, Sue took up running.  She especially like to run on Riverside Drive near their home. She set a goal to train for the widely known Tulsa run, accomplishing it not once, but twice.

Marilyn Sue Nourse was a beloved Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Friend.  She will be greatly missed by her family and friends until we meet again.  She is survived by her three children:  Michael Nourse of Kellyville and wife Karen, Felicia Young of Carrollton, TX, and husband Dean, and her loving son and caregiver, Jonathan Christopher Nourse of Tulsa and wife Jennifer, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.  Also survived by sisters Maxine Harmon, Cathryn Burnett, and Barbara Ruiz all of Tulsa and brother Charles Fix of Portland, Oregon.  In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to charities Sue supported:  The Salvation Army and John 3:16 Mission, and the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
