Charles Roland Hawkins

Charles Roland Hawkins was born September 17, 1937, in Hillsboro, Illinois, to Marcus and Blanche Hawkins.  He entered his eternal home on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 in Owasso, Oklahoma at the age of 84 years.  Charles was educated at Illinois State School for the Deaf in Jacksonville, Illinois, he was part of the class of 1959. He married Donda Maxine Farthing on April 8, 1961 and they made their home in Decatur, Illinois.  She passed away on September 15, 1996.  He married Darlena Carter on November 22, 1997, she passed away on January 1, 2020. Charles leaves behind two daughters Debbie Dee Roberts of Owasso, Oklahoma and Diana Dawn Hight (David Kinney) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a brother Norman (Judy) Hawkins of Tennessee; a sister Norma Jean (Gary) Hart of Illinois; five grandchildren, Amanda (Craig) Seematter of Oklahoma, Kasey (Donny) Berecz of Georgia, Kayla Roberts of California, Cameron Hight of Arizona and Darci Roberts of Oklahoma.  Four great-grandchildren Caleb Seematter of Oklahoma; Brooklyn Seematter of Oklahoma, Tinley and Teagan Berecz of Georgia.  Nephews Terry (Michelle) Hart of Texas, Wade (Alice) Hawkins of Tennessee, Todd (Angie) of Illinois and Rodney Hawkins of Tennessee. Step-daughter Peggy (Rich) Haskin of Illinois; Step-son Scott (Angie) Carter of Illinois; Step-grandchildren Kassity Briggs of Illinois and Christopher Carter of Illinois.  He also leaves behind his beloved fur baby Darissa.

Charles enjoyed spending time with his family and doing things that helped other people.  He worked for Van Zetti's Bakery in Decatur, IL for many years, he then went to work for Grigoleit Company and ended his working career with Decatur Memorial Hospital.  He owned a small lawn care business and enjoyed manicuring lawns wherever he went.  He moved to Oklahoma in 2020, during his time in Oklahoma he attended both Central Baptist Church in Owasso, OK and Praise Assembly Deaf Church in Tulsa, OK.

He is preceded in death by his parents and both wives

A celebration of life service will be held at Grace Baptist Church in Decatur, IL June 24, 2022 1:00 pm.
