Dorothy Barten was born in 1934 to German immigrant parents. She and her sister Sally lived the farm life doing chores, taking care of their family farm, and attending the Lutheran Church. She attended college, received her teaching degree, and taught elementary school. Dorothy met during college, her husband Lloyd, who also became a school teacher.
She bore two children in Iowa. The family then packed up and moved to the big city of Long Island, New York where Lloyd took a teaching position. Dorothy had their third child and became a full time homemaker and part-time baby sitter. They were active in the Lutheran church, in the choir, and members of the book club.
Dorothy's children grew up and married. She moved to Oklahoma to be with family when her eldest son passed away.
She was a kind, gentle, loving soul. Her biggest hobbies were charitable works through a number of organizations including feeding the hungry and supporting her grandchildren’s mission work.
An Evangelical Christian, The Lord defined her life and was her road map in everything she did.
Dorothy is survived by her sister, two children, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She is loved and will be missed by all.
