POARCH, Henry Harrison Jr. Known as Harry, 87 passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021 at his home in Tulsa. Born in Tulsa’s St. John Medical Center on October 9, 1933. He was a graduate of Will Rogers High School and the Oklahoma Military Academy, graduated from the University of Tulsa in 1955 and masters degree conferred from Golden State University/San Francisco with additional graduate studies at George Washington University in Washington , DC. He was commissioned a second lieutenant, Infantry, in the Regular Army of the United States in August 1955, serving three years. Upon his father’s death, he returned to Tulsa to lead the family business, Economy Lumber Company, Inc. Active in the Army Reserve, he was recalled to active duty in August 1966 and served two tours in Vietnam. He remained an active duty officer for 26 years. He was stationed in Washington DC for fifteen years and served his final seven years as a Lieutenant Colonel to the Army Staff at the Pentagon. Military recognition includes two awards of the Legion of Merit, four Bronze Stars, and a Purple Heart.
He was a member of the Epsilon Mu Chapter of Kappa Sigma fraternity; served as director of the Oklahoma Lumbermen’s Association, Rogers State University Foundation Board of Directors, and as a professional tennis official for the United States Tennis Association including stints officiating the US Open in New York City. He was a world traveler, an avid fan of TU athletics, a night owl and possessed an unparalleled sweet tooth. His later years were served at the direction of his beloved cat, Mischka. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Michael Manley; grandchildren Gabrielle and Christian Price, Bryce Manley, Priscilla Manley; and great grandson Maverick Price, all of Tulsa.
