Karl Skalnik Obituary

Karl Skalnik slipped away to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 10th, in Collinsville, Ok.  He was born Sept. 19, 1937 to Charles Skalnik and Margaret Breeding Skalnik, at Morningside Hospital (now Hillcrest) in Tulsa.

He was a member of Tulsa Central High School’s class of 1955 and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1959 with a B.S. in Agronomy (field crops).

Karl taught sciences at Owasso, Tulsa McLain and Central High Schools and Oral Roberts University.

On his Skiatook farm, he raised cattle, soybeans and wheat.  Karl enjoyed playing tennis and piloting a Cessna.  His first car was a 1938 four-door DeSoto.  He had a 1941 Ford Convertible and a 1931 Ford (chopped and channeled) coupe and a Harley.  These began a lifelong hobby of car-collecting and later businesses, Skalnik Automotive and Skalnik Hot Rods.

Karl was a member of the 45th Division of the Army National Guard Thunderbirds. A member of the Builders Sunday School class at Tulsa’s First United Methodist Church, he taught 12 grade and adult classes for nearly fifty years.

He was pre-deceased by his parents; granddaughter Holly Ann Skalnik and brother-in-law, the Rev. Neil C. Winslow.  He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, of 53 years; sons Brint (Christy), of Skiatook; Lance (Danielle), Owasso; Shelby (Cierra), Rogers, Arkansas;  Jed (Brittany) Owasso; grandchildren , Calley (Dane) Kelly of Canada; Courtney Skalnik of Germany; Ryan, Rachel and Soloman Skalnik Owasso; sister, Katherine Winslow; OKC; sister and brother-in-law, Toni (Bill) Allen of Norman , four nieces and two nephews.
