Weldon Hampton Obituary

Weldon Jermayah Hampton, “Mayah” to friends and family passed at age 44 in Tulsa, Oklahoma on July 13, 2021, of natural causes.

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii on October 23, 1976, Weldon lived most of his early life in the San Francisco Bay Area before relocating to Tulsa, Oklahoma.

As a young man Weldon was very passionate about sports mainly basketball which he excelled in during his high school years at Hayward High. Having a competitive nature made Weldon super fun to play any kind of sport with. He really enjoyed basketball pick-up games at Bollinger, shooting pool, video games, and family game night. He loved teaching others sport techniques and brought out the best in all his competitors!

Weldon married his high school sweetheart Elena Barraza. Together they welcomed Taylor and Mayah into the world. Their daughters are a true blend of both their parents. Taylor exhibiting Weldon’s laid-back easy-going personality and competitive sport nature, while Mayah (especially given her father’s nickname) bore a smile nearly identical to her daddy’s. Weldon’s smile was genuine, handsomely dimpled and a perfect complement to his wonderful sense of humor. Being an island boy, Weldon would joke before marriage saying, “Curls for the girls and waves for the babes”. His daughter Mayah would braid her father’s hair while he taught Taylor his gaming tips and tricks.

Weldon was a great friend to so many, from childhood friends, co-workers, and many extended family members. Saying that he will be missed inadequately expresses the loss many of us are experiencing. So many memories and sentiments could be shared about who Weldon was, what he meant to us and why we loved him.

Weldon is survived by his wife Elena, daughters Taylor and Mayah Hampton, parents Weldon Hurd and Dawn Hampton and siblings both immediate and extended.

Please continue to pray healing for the family as this loss and the impact in the aftermath has been difficult to endure.
